People across North Wales are being encouraged to get involved and celebrate Learning Disability Awareness Week (16th to 22nd June 2025) by taking part in a hiking and biking challenge. A range of organised walking and cycling events are taking place across all six counties of North Wales, inviting members of the public with all abilities to get moving and raise awareness.
The week is being led by North Wales Together, working alongside groups such as Conwy Connect, Llwybrau Lleisiant, Dal Dwylo, Outside Lives, Mencap Môn, Stand CIC North Wales, Cynnig and the SWS group in Wrexham. These groups and organisations are joining forces to host a variety of events to help people with learning disabilities to be seen, valued and included – embracing this year’s theme of “Do You See Me”.

Those taking part in the events are being asked to share their journey using #BeicaHeic hashtag and logging the activity on Strava: | LD Awareness Week Club
‘North Wales Together: Seamless Services for People with Learning Disabilities’ is one of many projects funded by the North Wales Regional Partnership Board (RPB), who support the delivery of a variety of health and social care initiatives for people and communities across the region.
North Wales Together works closely with local councils, health services, charities and people with lived experience. This project aims to help children, young people and adults with learning disabilities to live happy, healthy and independent lives by providing:
- Housing
- Supported employment
- Meaningful activities
- Useful technology
- Welsh language services
Kathryn Whitfield, Programme Manager for North Wales Together: Seamless Services for People with Learning Disabilities, said:
“We aim to improve the quality of life for people with learning disabilities in North Wales, focusing on living locally, feeling safe, valued and included, with access to effective personal support that promotes independence, choice and control.
“Thanks to support from the North Wales Regional Partnership Board and funding from the Regional Integration Fund, more than £1.3 million has been invested in community activities over the past six years. This funding has played a crucial role in strengthening third sector collaboration and co-producing member-led preventative wellbeing services for people with learning disabilities across the region.”
“All our work is coproduced with people with learning disabilities, their families and service colleagues. Our work has been recognised, with us being shortlisted twice for the Social Care Wales Accolades Awards for our coproduction and partnership working.”
