Social Care Wales recently highlighted the experiences of two care employers who have benefited from tailored Welsh language support in the workplace. Their stories demonstrate the positive impact this support can have on staff confidence, service quality and the delivery of the Active Offer.
Through their partnership with the National Centre for Learning Welsh, they fund three workplace Welsh language tutors across Wales who provide direct support to employers and their staff. Their role is to help workers make the most of the Welsh language skills they already have, whether they are beginners, learners or more confident speakers, and encourage greater use of Welsh in day-to-day work.
This support has been particularly successful in Flintshire and Denbighshire, where employers have reported significant benefits for both staff and the people they support.
In these short videos, Abbie Edwards from Haulfryn Care and Leah Davies from Elm Residential Care Home (MHC) explain how tailored Welsh language support has helped their teams identify existing skills, build confidence and increase the use of Welsh in the workplace.
Their experiences show that supporting Welsh language development is practical, achievable and delivers real benefits. Staff feel more confident communicating in Welsh, while people receiving care feel more understood, comfortable and connected to their language, identity and culture.
